Pozzo Nuovo

New Shaft

The metal castle of Pozzo Nuovo is the only structure still standing in the Mine of Morale. In 1954 the shaft had been deepened up to +103 meters above sea level and had been equipped with iron castle and pomini extraction winch; next to the local winch and the Compressors Room. The mouth of the shaftewas built at an altitude of +178 m. and with the mining works reached first the altitude of +71 m. and in 1971 the deepth reached +21 m. asl. In 1974 the shaft was deepened of other additional 50 meters for a total of 200 meters deep. The weight of the metal frame was 25 tons complete with clothespins. At the top of the castle was placed a metal panel with the inscription “Pozzo Nuovo“, then lost. The metal structure still visible seems to come from the former mine of Sirai coal in Carbonia.

Neue Welle
